Badr Organization

Badr organization formerly known as the Badr Brigade or Bader Corps is a wing of the army of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). The organization is led by Hadi al-Amiri and participate in the Iraqi elections of 2005 as part of United Iraqi Alliance coalition. Its members had joined the army and the new Iraqi police force on a large scale and practical control of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

Currently Badr Organization based in and around Cabala, and the practical control of the city and other parts of southern Iraq. Badr Organization has played an important role in fighting the rebel forces there. On the one hand, this organization has reduced the burden of coalition forces there, but on the other hand there are also tensions between the two. Have appeared reports of gun battles between these organizations with the British troops occupying the area. Iyad Allawi's government has accused the Badr Organization of killing of Iraqi intelligence officers on behalf of Iran, but this is vehemently denied this organization. In addition, the militia was also accused of involvement in a number of kidnappings, beatings and torture of Sunni Iraqis, and many experts regard it as a sectarian Shiite militias.


Badr Brigade based in Iran for two decades during Saddam Hussein's government. The force is composed of several thousand refugees, political refugees, and Iraqi defectors, who fought on the side of Iran in the Iran-Iraq War. Upon returning to Iraq after the coalition invasion in 2003 the group changed its name from the Brigade to the Organization, in response to the disarmament efforts of volunteer militias of Iraq by the Coalition Provisional Government. This organization has pledged to hand over his weapons when security issues have been solved.

Badr forces have been involved in sectarian violence between Shia and recently (2006), and do kill each other against the rival Mahdi Army.
